Just couldn't fault a thing! Wonderful large room no.2 overlooking the fields,with its own separate lounge. Ate in the hotel two of our three nights there. Superb fine dining. So well presented & the tastes were delicious. Breakfast again,was well presented and cooked just how we like it. Lots of choices of yoghurts,cereals,juice etc too and they even had my usual roibush tea in leaf form. Staff were all polite & efficient. Would most certainly recommend this hotel.

The hotel itself was lovely, room was great, except for the hairdryer, which didn't work. When we went down to breakfast I mentioned it to the receptionist/waiter, and he said 'Yes it plays up sometimes'. The coffee was cold. I asked for poached eggs, but he said the stand in chef didn't know how to make them. When the food arrived I asked for cutlery and he pointed to the far end of the room. There were 7 of us in the room but only 4 serviettes. I had to ask for the toast and was told it was still cooking, but when it arrived it was cold and 2 slices between us, 1 of which was the crust.. Suggest you go out for breakfast.

Gorgeous location, stunning views & lovely grounds. The room was fine though a little tired. The service was indifferent at times bordering on unhelpful & unfriendly. The food was disappointing & expensive. We had the crab dish as a starter. It arrived as a pile of long thin bits coated in a very hard, chewy batter & the filling, supposedly crab, was mostly skin, slimy & unpleasant. Foamy bubbles oozed out of the coating when cut. This was served with a pile of thin strips of spring onions sitting on top of the crab. Really not nice. When the waiter came to ask if everything was okay, I felt I had to comment but there was no interest, no apology & no offer any redress. The main course which was lamb, was no better than average. Overall a disappointing stay. Needless to say, we shall not return.

The room carpet sported several large stains of dubious origin, but that's perhaps inevitable when the breakfast is self-service and in-room. The wardrobe door handle came off, but was still usable. The electric shower sounded like a jet engine; could be a problem for some. Into nitpicking territory, the tv was small, relative to the size of the room. Guest parking is minimal, and Pittville Circus has double-yellows. Yes, there are positives. The room and bed were comfortable and warm. There's a bath and a shower; rooms in the budget price bracket don't often have both. Plenty of clean, matching towels and the usual toiletries. As well as the requisite tea/coffee/biscuits, there's also a cupboard containing a fridge, microwave, cutlery/crockery and enough cereal, pastries, juice, yogurts, tinned and fresh fruit to easily feed two at breakfast. The building retains many original architectural features. The place lands somewhere between an old-school seaside lodging house and Mr Bean's bedsit. Secure building/room access is via a code provided upon booking confirmation. I'd stay again. It's somewhere to sleep and at around £50 for the night, you shouldn't expect more than that.

I recommend adding more roast potatoes than you think you'll eat....they're so tasty you'll soon polish them off!
