My stay at Ambiente was a treat. The rating scale here is either 4 stars or 5 stars. This resort definitely merits more than 4 stars but there were a couple of aspects/events that preclude it from receiving 5 stars (from my perspective). Let's start with the good -- with the exceptional: The service was amazing -- over the top wonderful. Some of the best care that I have received in all of my travels around the world. Each staff member did everything that they could to make our stay amazing. They were attentive, friendly and even forward thinking. I know excellent customer service is part of their job description. But their actions made the check in process and every other interaction before checking out a signal of being welcomed. Not easy to do -- so the consistency in customer service was exemplary. There were so many "small" things that weren't small: the high quality toiletries, the turn down service/water at your bedside, the shower/soaking tub, the "free" snacks and drinks (not really free--included in the cost so that you didn't have to be worried about being charged $4.50 for a bag of chips). There was a beautiful, creative card and wine to welcome me to the celebration of my birthday. Transportation was well-thought out -- they had golf carts to take you around the resort and even a car at your service to take you around town. The staff who drove either mode of travel were so nice. We only used the car service once but I would have loved to find somewhere else to travel just to experience how easy they were to connect with -- even in a short 15 min ride. The whirlpool (102 degrees) and pool (82 degrees) were both warm and welcoming (I could be off in my degrees). The individual roof top patio and fire pit -- real genius. It was lovely to have that private space to star gaze. And there is a sauna that you just have to let them know you want to use -- and staff will turn it on for you ... 24 hours a day. Beautiful views of red rock, riveting sunrises. Ambiente does a lovely job of showcasing the unique environmental features of Sedona. I wasn't bothered by the additional gratuities that were added. If they really do go to the staff, then I think those gratuities are money well-spent. Now to the "more challenging" aspects of Ambiente: The restaurant was a mixed bag. Again the service was really good. And they made a fabulous caramel cafe latte with oat milk. But the menu was limited. Who has breakfast with no pancakes (just kidding -- not really kidding; the small things do make a difference). The side dishes were not consistent -- was the breakfast meat going to be overcooked, undercooked? Would the fruit be delicious and not just present in the bowl? We were going to have my birthday dinner at Forty1 but after reading the reviews (and considering our own experiences), we decided to try a different restaurant. The rooms were so interesting -- futuristic and very modern decor (loved the tv that could rotate down from the ceiling). B
