The hotel itself is lovely, and in a great location for walking to downtown. However, there are major communication problems with hotel staff. We attempted to book a two bed room for 3 people — per the descriptions online, the room should have been able to sleep 3 people, as there was one single and one double bed. After being unable to book the room online, we called the hotel directly to book the room, and were told it would be no problem. We never received an email confirmation or booking number, so two emails and a phone call later, when we received the confirmation booking for only 2 people, we were concerned. Two more emails and yet another phone call later, we were told a third person would be added at no additional charge. When we got to the hotel, checking in was easy. We were unable to park in the car park for the hotel, but were able to temporarily park in the set down spot to drop out our bags, then found parking at the sister lot, which was quite close. Unfortunately, the check in clerk neglected to mention that breakfast was included in our stay, in fact, telling us that the breakfast would be billed to the room, so we did not utilize it any of the three days we stayed here. The room was huge, and well maintained. The pool was somewhat lackluster, but the steam and sauna rooms really made up for it. Finally, upon checkout, we were billed for the third person. Overall a lovely hotel if you have extra money to waste!

I recently had my wedding at the Great Southern Hotel Killarney. They went above and beyond for us. Majority of our guests, including ourselves, stayed at the hotel for 4 nights/l. Accommodation - spacious, warm, quiet, heavenly. Breakfast - phenomenal l. So many options including a menu Staff - Michaela, our wedding coordinator was amazing. So friendly, responsive and managed everything so easily even when there were last min changes. Simply brilliant. Gillian - events coordinator - our superstar. So personable, kept everything ticking along with the sit down meal, speeches, line up of entertainment etc. A very caring lady who simply is amazing at her job. We had no worries when Gillian was on the job. Sean - the fantastic doorman, so friendly. Put my nerves at ease every time I met him. Steven - our wedding host, another gentleman who hosted our wedding tastings as well as the wedding. So friendly, making sure myself and guests were always looked after Ryan - another lovely gentleman who was present the night of the wedding. His constant check ins with me were a comfort. The staff - all the staff are amazing, professional and so friendly. Top class staff that I simply cannot find fault with. This hotel feels like home to me & I can’t wait to revisit Thanks so much for making our wedding magical and impressing all of our wedding guests with your professionalism and friendly manners. This is our second visit to this hotel and definitely wont be our last. Beautiful hot scones & tea/coffee on arrival. Delicious food last night. Warm cosy fire to relax with after dinner drink. Best of all the friendly staff. Kiran in Bar, Joanne in bar and Ellie at breakfast. Reception staff amazing. Spacious rooms with really comfortable big bed and great quality bed linen.

PROS: Exceptionally clean. Everything seemed relatively new. Beautifully quiet. Nice warm room. Bedding, décor, and furnishings were all quite nice and well selected. CONS: No lounge or living room type common area for guests to sit comfortably with only one basic office chair provided in the room. Quite simply, it was too sp****ly furnished and appointed. Wi-fi was very sketchy (despite numerous reboots) and even stopped working completely for quite some time. The owner since claimed to have “super fast Wi-Fi” and that we should have addressed Wi-fi issues on-site, but we had no idea how to find the proprietor once he handed us the room keys and then basically disappeared for the duration of our stay (behind one of the closed doors on the property?). In short, we could not address the Wi-fi issues as he suggested. There were no TV’s in the entire property, which the owner stated was done on purpose to provide a “quiet and peaceful experience”. That seems nice enough, but without reliable working Wi-fi, the property became an isolated entrapment while we stared at the walls for several hours. A tomb is a “quiet and peaceful experience”, but that doesn’t necessarily make it pleasant. By normal Irish standards for hotels, 4:30 pm check-in and 10:30 am check-out times were quite late and early respectively, which is not common for Ireland as the owner subsequently claimed. We stayed in more than 30 hotels in Ireland and not one of them provided so little overall time. The typical turnaround from check-in to check-out (in all of 2100 miles we traveled around Ireland) was about an hour longer, one way or another. Responding to this, the owner quite rudely wrote (his quote) that we “would need to familiarise yourself with the basics before travelling somewhere”. To that, I can only say we are traveling 110 days this year in 16 different countries and have traveled to about 40 countries before. We plan our journeys exhaustively. I suggest rather than provide insulting remarks about our travel abilities, which are highly tuned and time-tested, perhaps this property’s management should listen to useful customer input about things which were not customary and inferior to competitors. Breakfast was an additional charge which rather goes against the ENTIRE notion of calling oneself a B&B. In retrospect, on closer examination, I concede the advertised rates for the property apparently included a non-breakfast option, but it’s important to note that is not always completely obvious when viewing typical hotel booking sites. Addressing this, the owner wrote that “it looks like you had no idea what you were booking and were not looking at the location or anything at that time”. Overlooking the blatant rudeness of that comment, our situation was actually quite the contrary, and we were keenly familiar with the location, having already spent a total of 25 days traversing the entire west coast of Ireland throughout both rural and urban areas before
